Susan Germini-Humble descends from a long line of artisans and tradesmen. “I believe the seed of design was unknowingly planted in me at an early age by my family. There were three artists in the family, two of my grandmothers were seamstresses, my father beautifully landscapes and owns his own excavation business, and my mother was a florist for many years. Craftsmanship and nature were a constant in my childhood.” Even as a young girl, Susan was able to identify her mother’s taste for the true cottage style by incorporating relaxed lines and soft textiles in her home decor. Susan credits this seamless blend of beauty and comfort at home as the driving force behind her pursuit into the field as a interior decorator.
With a strong background in sewing and woodworking, her hands-on skill set allows her to work more closely on design projects from fabrication to installation and completion. For over 30 years, Susan has been working closely with numerous clients throughout New England on projects ranging in scope from simple slipcovers to full home remodels. She remains energetic and passionate about her work and takes great pleasure in collaborating with her clients to create beautiful and sustainable design solutions.
When Susan is not in the studio cutting, sewing or selecting fabrics, you can probably find her outdoors. Her energetic spirit and thirst for life is most readily satisfied by taking hikes with her dog, Bruno, gardening or kayaking. And, if it’s a warm summer day you might even catch Susan taking a spin along the shoreline on her motorcycle.
Recognized for her classic traditional style, Connecticut based designer, Susan Germini-Humble, frequently uses colors and patterns inspired by nature to keep her designs fresh and the line between the indoors and outdoors blurred. She focuses on finding that balance between trends, comfort, and functionality in all of her designs.
For Susan, the design process begins with the client; listening to the story they want to tell within their space. The design philosophy is based upon the belief that the inside of the home should speak the client’s language and should feel good in every sense. It’s about natural light, architectural details, and a love of materials that make a room special. It’s about a timeless design with a unique feel and livable style.
